1. What is a computer system?
Ans. - A computer system is a set of interconnect components which allows to receive, process, and present data. It is integrated by hardware and software. It comprises input devices, a central processing unit (CPU), memory storage, and output devices.

2. What are the different generations of computers? Explain.
Ans. - Five main generations of computers:
  1. First Generation (1940-1950): Used vacuum tubes as primary electronic component for processing. Example: ENIAC.
  2. Second Generation (1950-1960): Transistors replaced vacuum tubes for computing. Example: IBM 7094.
  3. Third Generation (1960-1970): They introduced Integrated Circuits (ICs) which enabled to connect so many transistors in a circuit. IBM 360 series.
  4. Fourth Generation (1970-Present): Microprocessors were introduced. Example: Apple II, IBM System were some early fourth generation computers. All computers devices such as desktop, PC, laptop, mobile devices are fourth generation computers.
  5. Fifth Generation (Present and Beyond): Based on artificial intelligence.

Ans. - Some types of computers based on their processing power and capabilities:-
  • Supercomputers: Extremely fast and powerful, used for scientific simulations.
  • Mainframe Computers: Large systems used by businesses for bulk data processing.
  • Minicomputers: Mid-sized, used in manufacturing processes.
  • Microcomputers: Personal computers like desktops and laptops.
